Mil V-12: The Colossus of the Skies

The Mil V-12, also known as the Mil Mi-12, is a legendary Soviet heavy-lift helicopter that holds a prominent place in the history of aviation. Designed by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant during the Cold War era, the V-12 was the largest and most powerful helicopter ever built. This achievement demonstrated the helicopter’s unparalleled lifting power, unmatched by any other rotary-wing aircraft.

Moreover, the V-12 was capable of reaching speeds of up to 260 kilometers per hour (160 mph), making it faster than many contemporary transport helicopters. Its range surpassed 500 kilometers (311 miles), allowing it to perform long-range transport and logistical missions effectively.

Despite its impressive capabilities and potential, the Mil V-12 never entered mass production or saw operational use. Its development coincided with significant political and economic changes in the Soviet Union, and the project faced several obstacles, including budget constraints and technological challenges.
